For today’s class we had two guest speakers in to showcase their experience working in design and to give us tips on what to avoid and what worked for them the first speaker being Dr. Norman Stevenson and the second being Noel Joyce. Our first speaker was very interesting giving his take on the design world and sharing some of his experience in the field but the second speaker had some technical difficulties with the zoom meeting and I could not hear him very well so it was much harder to take anything away from what he was saying. Norman ended up giving us some questions to ask ourselves. The first being:
What are our responsibilities as a designer?
For me I had to take a few moments to think about this one, But I believe that our responsibilities as designers is to push the boundaries of what the norm is and see how far we can go with each thought. I think we need to explore as many different ways of doing something before settling on the ‘right’ idea. I believe that if we as product designers can’t push ourselves to create the best product, we can then why do we try at all. I think that once we set our mind to something we must strive until there is no more we can do, explore all possibilities before calling it quits. Keep trying until it doesn’t work and if that doesn’t work take a different approach and go again.
Our next question we were given was:
Find the piece of design you wish you had done?
Sony WH-1000XM3 a pair of headphones that I have had for nearly a year now. I wish I could have designed that due to the sleek all black look but also for the functionality. The noise cancelling headphones are the best I have used to allow you to drown out all external sound and just listen to the music they are also so comfy you could wear them for hours on end without having to adjust them with how comfy they already are. These particular headphones are so well made you can’t do anything but admire them. I personally have a bit of a passion for music and the sound quality has never let me down, so it is always a pleasure while using them. The option to turn the noise cancelling is very handy when walking around anywhere not just stuck inside listening to music. I think they are one of the most user friendly products that I have come across and that is why I wish that I had designed them, something that everyone can enjoy and its simple features make it very easy to use understand all its features quickly.
