This is a very broad question that we were given in todays class. It can be so many different things to so many different people, but in my eyes, I think being creative is thinking of different ways to solve problems. I feel I am the most creative when faced with a problem with no easy way around it or when you need a tool to do something but can’t find it near you. A simple example would be using your student id car as a ruler when an actual ruler is not around you. This shows a different way of thinking where you use tools that may not be made for that purpose but can carry out the function needed. This may not be the most ‘traditional’ way of being creative, but it is where I feel that this way shows my creative side in a more personal level. Obviously the more standard pieces of creativity can be shown by the projects we do in college, the whole ideation phase of most Design Studio projects is you being as creative as you possibly can to get an idea that you are happy to progress with.
Are you creative??
I feel that everyone is creative in their own way. I feel people disregard all the creativity they show when asked about this. I would say that everyone I have met in my life has a creative spark about them weather it be the way they act, the way they think or the way they work. There is so many variables involved in creativity that I believe everyone is creative, some people just choose to suppress how really act around certain people or just don’t realise what it means to be creative. I even found myself having to change the way I think in certain situations like for job interviews or in some classes in secondary school. I feel that learning when to be creative is another skill altogether as most people would find it hard to start thinking creatively instantly. I feel that classes like today's in Contemporary design culture are steps in the right direction in unlocking your true potential with regards your creative flow. Today made me think of when I feel like I am at my most creative and when I am at my least because I really do believe creativity depends on multiple things including mood, setting and the people around you really cater to your creative flow.
